== Common limits on RN scope ==

For licensure exam purposes, the baseline RN does not:

* Establish a medical diagnosis.
* Prescribe medications or treatments, except when acting under a valid protocol or standing order that the state permits.
* Independently order diagnostic imaging or laboratory studies.
* Perform procedures for which the nurse has no education, training, or validated competency, even if the state permits RNs generally to perform them.
* Delegate a task that the state has designated as non-delegable.
