== Study Tips for the NCLEX-PN == * When a question asks what the LPN should do first, look for the answer that gathers focused data or reports to the RN rather than one that independently changes the plan of care. * Match patient stability to the nurse. Unstable, unpredictable, newly admitted, and complex teaching situations point to the RN. * If an option describes an initial assessment, a nursing diagnosis, an IV push, blood administration, or initial teaching, it is usually outside LPN scope. * Remember the four layer test: state law, board rules, employer policy, and individual competence. * When a question turns on a specific state rule, the exam will generally test the widely accepted national standard rather than an outlier state law.
